LinkedIn Login Page MobileAs a digital marketing professional it’s important to carve out time in our busy schedules to stay on top of insights and learning in our industry. As a content strategist, curating content via other thought leaders and brands in our industry is a key component to a full content strategy. With tens of thousands of new pieces of content posted daily, it’s important to find those sites on the web that you trust for consistent content. For me, one of those places is LinkedIn. Knows as the professional social networking site, LinkedIn has also become quite the content powerhouse.

Here are 3 ways I use LinkedIn to curate content and stay on top of news in my industry:

Pulse App LogoPulse:  If you haven’t set up Pulse for yourself yet, go do it now!  LinkedIn purchased this new reader app in April of 2013 and in doing so took it’s content efforts to another level.  You can customize the information you see on your home page based on the topics, influencers and channels you select.

Go to > Interests > Pulse

LinkedIn Pulse

Customize the content you want to receive:

  • Your News: This is an aggregate of news stories posted within the channels you choose based on your interests.
  • Your Influencers:  This is an aggregate of posts published by Influencers you have chosen to follow on LinkedIn. Influencers are selected by LinkedIn based on their level of expertise and influence in certain subject areas. The posts shared by these individuals are specific to LinkedIn and cannot be found on other blogs or sites.
  • All Influencers: Choose the Influencers you wish to follow to see the content they post.
  • All Channels:  Choose the topics of interest, from Accounting to Green Business to What Inspires Me and almost everything in between.
  • All Publishers: Follow the content from publications such as Wall Street Journal, TechCruch and PandoDaily.

Groups:  I love LinkedIn Groups. Not only is this a fantastic way to connect with other professionals within your areas of interest, but they can be a wonderful place to find gems of content. Often group members will share their blog posts or share content from others that they believe members may find interesting.

Group discussions can also be a great resource for content ideas. Asking a question that gets great discussion could be inspiration for a future blog post or ebook.

Company Pages:  Since LinkedIn rolled out Company Pages in October 2012, over 2 million companies now have the opportunity to share content and build community on the platform. When you follow a LinkedIn Company Page their status updates end up in your stream and often this is another great content resource.

Bonus:  SlideShare

Though purchased by LinkedIn in 2013, SlideShare still holds it own as a content platform. With the subsequent ability to add rich media options to your personal LinkedIn profile, this partnership has allowed content creators to leverage both networks beautifully.  SlideShare continues to be a great resource for content curation and new ideas.

Now it’s your turn.  What other ways do you use LinkedIn to find great content?
